OMC 2022 - DECARBONIZATION AND CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE.

DECARBONIZATION AND CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE.

SIX COMPANIES OF RAVENNA AND FERRARA INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS WILL PRESENT THEIR JOINT PROJECT  ON 16TH JUNE

THE EVENT IS ORGANISED BY OMC MED ENERGY CONFERENCE EXHIBITION

Decarbonizing the energy intensive industrial sectors, where CO2 abatement is most challenging, and the role of  Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) as a major decarbonisation lever to achieve the ambitious targets set by the EU are the main topics of the first OMC Med Energy Conference event taking place on 16th June from 9.30 at Grand Hotel Mattei in Ravenna – the first of a series on the roadmap to OMC 2023.

The morning session will focus on “Decarbonizing the Hard to Abate. The Ravenna Anchor Project” and will be the occasion to present a study on CO2 abatement in the industrial districts of Ravenna and Ferrara where Cabot, Herambiente, Marcegaglia, Polynt, Versalis (Eni) and Yara  are jointly working at a CCUS project. It is the first Italian project involving a production district of international relevance.
The existing CCS technologies make Ravenna a perfect candidate to be the first Italian Hub for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

CCS has become central in the energy transition strategy of many European countries, like United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands and Denmark. Moreover, implementing CCS technologies becomes a driver of development and growth, generates an increase in employees’ figures and boosts innovation and circular economy, actually contributing to the decarbonization of entire production districts at local level.

The second part of the session will focus on more technical aspects relating to “The role of CCUS in the energy transition: Case histories”. Academia, energy professionals and business companies will discuss about the experience of countries where CCS technologies are already in use,  from a technical and strategical point of view.

“A change of pace is necessary – says Monica Spada, Chair of OMC MED Energy Conference 2023 “It is time to transform commitments into actions. These include targeted and smart policies, adequate investment and innovative technologies to put in place urgently if we want to reduce climate change impacts and develop new value chains.
Alliances are mandatory to achieve a low carbon future, starting from alliances with the energy intensive industries in order to find more adequate and effective solutions.
OMC-Med Energy Conference 2023 will continue the debate on energy transition and sustainable development. After rethinking energy, we will focus on reshaping the energy industry to translate ideas into actions. “
